Losing weight has always been an uphill task at all ages and times. I seem to have been struggling with this since my childhood. In fact, I was born a chubby baby weighing 10 pounds, as told, and was never skinny. But the urge to lose weight always kept me on my toes.

I remember going on a strict diet when I was thirteen. Little did I know about the balanced diet so I ate almost nothing for a month. I lost 4-5 kgs and turned really skinny but soon after this, I found myself at a doctor’s as I had screwed up my hormonal cycle :/

So the first tip to lose weight is never to starve yourself. Always take the proteins/milk/supplements which must not interfere with other body functions.

Anyway, I was given medicine and everything got better. The best part about this sad episode is that I did maintain what was left of me and I was no more fat for many years. After that, I have always watched out for my diet. Like literally always!

I am on a perennial diet plan that stops me from over-eating except when I get tensed. Yes, you give me one reason to get stressed and I’ll tell you how to become a balloon in a matter of days but fortunately, this is non-existent so I’m usually on-track!

Next time, I felt the urge to shed few pounds was when I gained 7-8 Kgs after my first child. Since I had a c-section, I was told to avoid exercising for six months. I don’t know how wise was to take this precaution but I did wait for at least this much time. Then, I discussed my problem with a friend and we both decided to become yoga buddies at work. I had an excellent gym at work and ladies times were just right for everything. We also had a facility of a personal trainer but since my friend knew yoga so she helped me with the basic exercise. We also religiously followed GM Diet along this and the results were great. I lost 4 Kgs but there was a huge effect on my measurements.

The Post-Pregnancy Weight

Soon after this, I started wearing the same pre-pregnancy clothes that I had carefully put at the upper compartment of my cabinet. Thankfully, this diet didn’t trigger any other health issue. This diet plan was very strict though but as soon as the results started showing up, I felt great about the hard work. At least I got my chin back 🙂

Plus, it is very important if you are having a partner to push you and keep you going. This whole exercise requires a lot of will power. Most things in life become easier when you have a partner to share your miseries with, lol.

Btw, it is easy to call someone fat but trust me, obese people are fighting a hundred types of ailments and struggling with this on daily basis. Losing weight isn’t easy so please have some empathy with those who are fighting this or have lost hope in between.

With time and experience, I have come to belief that in order to look good, 50% percent of the credit goes to your body, 30% to your hairstyle and 20% to your attire. I don’t know how this works in the developed countries but in Pakistan at least, I see females taking this in the reverse order. They will spend a fortune on clothes, then will consider their hairstyle and mostly would give up on their body post baby/marriage/thirties.

So just to summarize this:

  1. Don’t starve yourself.
  2. Follow some diet plan. There are 100s available online. See what suits you.
  3. Never forget to walk or exercise.
  4. Keep yourself motivated – I would suggest you look for partners. If you can’t find one – try to make your food a bit less boring by doing some experiments.
  5. Don’t kill yourself.
  6. And drink a lot of water!
  7. Feel good about yourself everyday
  8. Love your body every single day and this (read torture) will pass quickly. Rhetoric it may sound but it works.
  9. Lastly, you need to tell your brain what you want and you will eventually achieve. This is mostly a mind game before it starts showing off!

There are many boot camps happening in Lahore with the name of 42 day Challenge or 30 Day Challenge. Please make sure your Vitamin-D doesn’t go too down with these because there were a lot of problems originating due to their hard-core diet plan. They did try to mellow it down but then the results got affected. When you pay for something, you feel a bit obliged or under pressure for the sake of money you have put in. They are good to kick-start a routine but the sole onus lies on you later to maintain the weight loss.

Anyway, we all are getting to live this life only once and as my cousin says, your A game should be on all the time (lol) so if you can give it a try – do give it a try. If not for anything else, but for your own health!

Have a great Day!
