Have you ever been in a situation where you binge watched a season from start to end within no time. Although, I used to be an avid reader but the silent transition from reading to watching movies to finally getting hooked to the seasons has made me at least write my review on them. Following are the seasons to watch in 2018 on my recommendation as I have thoroughly enjoyed them with an exception of one*. You can follow the same list to amuse yourself in your leisure time – happy reading and watching… 🙂
- Lost: Complete
- Prison Break: First Season Only
- Breaking Bad*: Complete
- Desperate Housewives: Couldn’t finish
- Friends: Couldn’t finish
- The Big Bang Theory: Still Watching
- Mad Men: Still Watching
- Game of Thrones: Still Watching
- House of Card: Still Watching
- Vampire Diaries: Couldn’t finish
- Walking Dead: Still Watching
- Sex and the City: Couldn’t finish
Firstly I’ll talk about the one I didn’t like because its the only odd one out and then I’ll move towards those which I enjoyed thoroughly. Before penning down my review, I want to make a disclaimer that watching season is the “We” time me and hubby have post baby. Sometimes, these seasons do take our talk time while we go for a walk or a long drive. So all in all, these seasons, which are usually picked by my husband, are watched together as a mean to spend time on something which is not related to our daily life routine.
I only watched season 1 of Prison Break. I watched it many years ago. I could have watched the rest of the seasons as well but I clearly remember somebody mentioning that the rest are very bad and must not be seen. I was given spoilers and good enough reasons to discontinue watching it. But if you have less time, season one is a complete entertainment package on its own and can be thoroughly enjoyed. I’ll give 10 on 10 for season 1. Like the title says, its about a guy who gets into jail to rescue his brother. So the season is all about jail breaking and what happens inside. Its a full thriller and the hero is good looking as well 🙂
Both Sex and the City and the Desperate Housewives fall under similar category i.e. Drama. Since I watched them many many years ago and now I have an overall impression about these two, I’ll not be able to do complete justice with a candid review. They both were very good time pass and since they were pretty much female-driven, I think they will find maximum popularity and connection with this gender more. Mostly, the drama had captured the talk of the female friends and their issues. By the way, I live in a developing country where the urban females are still far behind the urban female of a developed country but our essence is the same. I could identify so much with some of the characters. For example I can easily be the Miranda Hobbs from Sex and the City and the Lynette Scavo from Desperate Housewives while still being me! We have had similar issues and the situation-handling skills. For ladies, it’s a good time-pass. For men, I have my reservation!
I can publicly apologize if I have to but guys, i liked Big Bang way more than Friends (Yes you heard me right…:/) I really tried watching Friends after so much encouragement but the bar for Big Bang kept raising higher so much so that I had to leave Friends in the middle…I couldn’t hook to it. Not my mistake but sorry it didn’t make me laugh enough. Big Bang is way better and it is still running so I’m its ardent viewer. It’s a full-fun package and has my complete loyalties!
I learnt so much from House of Card that I can’t even explain. It is not about learning politics, it is all about learning how to tackle different situations in life. I really missed not watching it when I was working. Trust me, it would have saved me in a thousand ways. All working people are deeply urged to put it under Watch List. It is still on with one season left. Although I was never a fan of Kevin Spacey but man, he is a magician with his work. Go watch it now….and just don’t watch it… try to connect the dots how he does things! Also, another point to pick is the level of preparedness, always three steps ahead. Wish I was ever so prepared when I had that kind of platform in front of me. If the President of America can have so much sleepless nights rehearsing for one speech, where do we stand – just think about it!!
Trust me, when we lack preparedness, emotions take over and they are totally suicidal when you are in a professional environment. You have no idea how emotional I am and how much i have suffered when it was totally uncalled for :/
Vampire Diaries is for teenagers or for those who have still some traces of childhood left in them. Its a fun watch when you are in your twenties (by max). Don’t bother if you have hit thirties 🙂
Walking Dead! Hmmmm….First three seasons and the last season (on-aired till date) was a big miss. The rest of the seasons are really an addiction. The director and the writer had somehow cracked the code of making a good drama by keeping the start and the last 3 minutes of every episode really nerve-itching. In-between, they had pushed a lot many fillers. So by the time you would finish an episode you would crave to start the new one…not because you had just seen an engaging episode and wanted to complete it further – it was because they would throw suspense in the last three minutes (you can use a clock to monitor time) and put you in utter suspense that may kill you. Btw, this recipe has worked for them and it is one of the biggest hit. My husband loves it and I have liked it too but trust me the last episode of season 8 was truly a disappointment and I don’t want to write anything bad any further to steal away their viewers.
Game of Thrones commands the same position as the only royal child of a British family and everyone loves it…lol…so I love it too. The internet is flooded with spoilers and summaries so I’m not going to write about it but it’s a great suspense, thriller drama and grabs all your attention till the very end and yes, I love John Snow (smiles sheepishly).
Lost is a beautiful season. From the start till the very end, it would grip you. I recall spending hours and hours on this one because I was so badly hooked. The storyline is engaging – its about a plane crashing in some weird island (where weird things happen) and the cast is also very good. Although I still remember people had other opinion about its ending but I liked it the way it was finished. It’s a must watch guys.
And now I’m going to talk about this one season at last because it has my heart and my soul… Mad Men. When my husband asked me to start this new series which is based on an advertisement agency, I had my doubts. I really wanted to watch something relaxing and relatable. I started it because I was a good wife otherwise I had no intentions and I thought it will be another Breaking Bad for me. But alas, all my fears went down the drain as soon as the story developed. It was nothing boring as I had imagined. It’s about the life of a particular man who happens to be the Creative Head of an advertisement agency in Madison Avenue. This drama is set in 1960’s and it has everything for somebody who is both professional and has a personal life. I’m thoroughly impressed by the style those women used to carry at their time.
I’m planning to do one post on the jewelry used – I’m so totally into this drama. I keep discussing the life of Don Draper (main lead) with my husband and I’m equally in love with both the male and female lead. Please watch it and love it because Obama loved it…yes, you heard me right! I was going through the spoilers one day (how hopelessly involved I’m) and read that after season 3 finished, the creator of the series received a complimentary letter from Obama because seemingly, he was also hooked to this one. The Creator of the series has gotten this letter framed and put it outside its door for everyones’ acknowledgment. Isn’t it quite an achievement?!
Anyway, this last one deserve a separate post from many perspectives (fashion being one) so keep looking into this space for Mad Men.
This is all from this part of the world 🙂
Till then, adious!
