Its been ages since I have watched any drama on television as per their schedule. Thanks to Youtube, DailyMotion and other streaming platforms where one can find all Pakistani dramas and watch them in a go. With all the facilities in hand, we have become impatient with everything we like. Now I purposefully wait for a drama of my liking to finish on the television or be eons ahead if I want to watch it. This gives me a lot of flexibility to watch it in my free time, forward it if the story is getting slower and stop it if my kid wants to watch something else. With all these options in hand, I still watch selective dramas – only if I like the caste or somebody recommends it. Here are the top 3 Pakistani dramas that I have thoroughly enjoyed.
I would recommend you to watch them in your leisure time and be happy about your life 🙂
1- Sang-e-Mar Mar: I don’t know who recommended this to me but my God, this was one of the most beautiful and engaging drama that I had watched in ages. This is not a regular family story which you or I can identify with. The drama is set up in the north of a typical Pathan family where male patriarchy is extremely pronounced. The cherry on the top, beside a gripping story line, is the acting of both Nauman Ejaz and Saniya Saeed.
Nauman Ejaz has the ability to act with his eyes and gets very intense. Sania Saeed’s effortless acting reminds me of Madhuri who dances with such grace and poise and keep giving us hints that whatever she is dancing to, is extremely easy. This is the level of their command over their profession. So acting-wise, this drama serial is very good. It cannot easily fall under one specific genre. It has a bit of everything, romance, drama, and thrill. So you can be amused with the story line at different levels.

2- Doraha: I watched this drama six years ago but it still has very strong impressions on my mind. It is about a married couple story who started their life with love and ended up seeing many things together. Humayun Saeed is a fine actor. The girl, Sonia Rehman has also played very well as the main lead. This drama is based on Umera Ahmed novel “Menay Khawabon Ka Shajar Dekha Hai” and has 14 episodes in total.
Umera Ahmed is the only known Urdu novel writer of our times. Gone are the days when we had a list of star writers. Hence, it’s a blessing to see dramas made on novels. Such pieces of art have an advanced level of maturity, both in terms of dialogue and story telling. Because they are made by proficient people who have an authority on their subject.
My husband hates watching romantic movies and dramas but I made him watch it throughout and he didn’t find it any bad either. So for my male readers, this is a good news for you in case you are also allergic to seeing “stupid love” on the tv. This one will keep you engaged. Promise 😐

3- Dhoop Kinare: I can’t imagine anyone saying this to me that they have not seen this drama. It was aired by PTV in 1987 and the main leads were Rahat Kazmi and Marina Khan – veterans of their field. I have seen this serial thrice. It was also written by none other than Haseena Moin, a novel writer – so you can imagine the kind of work she did for this drama: surreal, to-the-point, easy-to-the-ears kind of dialogues. Genre is romance but not the “Titanic” kind of romance. It is subtle and builds up with each episode. You will love it, in case you have not watched it yet (I won’t believe you saying this wasey).

I have recently finished watching Baaghi. It was a good drama. Actually, it is the real life story (with some plus minuses) of Qandeel Baloch, played by Saba Qamar. This was made on the same lines film “Sanju” is made i.e. to present the other side of story to the people about the celebrities who fall under controversy and then somebody decides to mend their perception. Unfortunately, we decided to make Baaghi when the poor girl had already died. But in case of Sanju, Sanjay Dutt is alive and kicking and will reap the fruits of this image-rebuilding exercise.

Despite liking this drama it couldn’t enter my favorite drama list because of the fact that such real life stories are one-time-watch. I liked it very much but I won’t be watching it again. As for the other three dramas, I can still go back to them from time to time.
Other than this, if you have a lot of time at your disposal, then you can watch Humsafar (primarily for the Khans) and Zara Yaad Kar (Have not watched it yet but this one is on my list for its very powerful dialogues – I keep watching the clips every now and then).
Till then, take care!
