I need to start a new series on “Weird Thoughts” that I get time to time and I feel this my responsibility to share them with you all. So ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seat belts and get ready for the thought that I had today. Feel free to get impressed from me or just say “What the W…” and move on with your life. After all this is “Sanoo kee ?!” kind of a post 🙂
So today I was thinking about Stephen Hawking and Einstein. The former scientist worked on universe and the big bang theory whilst the later one established his supremacy in the field of relativity and space/time. Well, both of them – and actually many like them, never had any physical evidence of whatever theory they were working on. I mean, Stephen wasn’t born billions of years ago to see how this universe came into being. Neither did Einstein spent his time in the space and saw E=mc^2 actually happening right in front of him. Right? So what made their work scientific and not fiction? Some mathematical equations and work of their predecessor scientists which was already proven and then they just built upon it? Right?
So who made mathematics and all those equations? Us – the human beings? our predecessors? So we invented mathematics. Mathematics is not a fact. This whole subject cannot pass the six-sense test which is “touch, smell, taste, sight, sound and hear”. But, we made equations and tried to fit in our thoughts in it. Those which could balance those equations were called scientific theories and the unlucky ones died a natural death owing to having no evidence to back them up. But in this whole mechanism, what is backing up what? Science is assessed by mathematics but what is behind maths? Us? Because we made maths !
Everything, all of a sudden, seems unreal. There are many people in this world who get a hint on how this universe is working, what is the meaning of life, who are we and what is our end. But unfortunately, they can’t seem to justify their thinking with any maths. They are not wrong. They just can’t find the reasonable mean to represent their thought.
Any thing and every thing can become scientific if it can perfectly fit into an equation and balances it out. But then again, it was Stephen Hawking, the greatest scientist of our times, who once said:
So if perfection is not possible, how do we end up justifying few theories using the scientific equations? After all an equation is a perfect balance of constants and variables scientists use to justify their work.
Something is just not right and it perturbs me sometimes.
Btw, don’t be surprised to know that I have lost my faith in history and all kind of similar studies because I believe that they reflect the mood/attitude/grooming/how-he-sees-it of the author who has written that work. When any incidence happens, there is some part of it which is a fact and stated as it is. This is the 20% of the total narrative. Rest of the 80% is the opinion of the author.
For example, pick up the history of sub-continent. Read any incidence from a Pakistani writer perspective and then by an Indian writer. After finishing one particular instance covered by two different writers having two different loyalties, please let me know whose history would you consider right? Ours or theirs? Please don’t just say ours because we have our interest and loyalties here or may be this is what makes more sense or this is something we want to read and then just get an affirmation of.
I have found anomalies in the way histories are written. In my view history is a glorified manuscript of olden times written by none other than us. It can go here or there without any background check. Who knows what happened in actuality without any tint of lie or exaggeration? Who knows ?
I have similar sentiments about the way religious accounts are presented. There are so many variations in the narrative of any religion that you pick. It is humanly impossible to figure out who is right in putting down the real incident that happened centuries and centuries ago. Like I said before, we cannot double check!
You won’t believe this but what I have just written is already a debate in science. According to science, none of us knows or can confirm that what has been told to us for centuries is actually right. May be one fine day, our great great great grandfather woke up and said that he heard this from his great great great grandfather that an incident happened in a particular way. May be he said that to feel great about himself and his family and that’s it. What if there is no such thing as a history? What if it is all made up? This is all theory and a constant act of mischief by the mankind for the mankind.
A couple of days ago, one tv channel was showing documentary on the ruins found somewhere in Pakistan. They had supposedly found the traces of 100 BC old university. According to that program, courses like psychology and many others were taught there. They were showing sculptures of Buddha and other stuff fixated in the walls. And then suddenly I asked my husband:
“What if this is the highest level of advancement in science and technology which those people achieved and then died? After all, people of old times knew excellent techniques on how to preserve human bodies, made complicated architecture of pyramid and what not – what if we are all living and dying in a loop – what if our end is our beginning? “
Btw, how many of you have seen this movie called “Edge of Tomorrow” starring Tom Cruise? In that movie, they show how he gets trapped in a time loop and struggles really hard to get out of it. What if we are all stuck in a time loop as well? What if we all reach up to a certain level and the day of judgement comes and then it starts all over again? What if we find our own traces from the ruins and say how old-fashioned our ancestors were when in fact it would have taken us years and years to reach that point.
Irony is, nothing can be tested or checked. This doctrines are based on narratives written by none other than our own self. There is no such thing as a science or history – meaning, we are in a loop!
Take an aspirin now with a cup of chai!
Till I get my next thought – bub bye for now !
PS: Please accept my apology for making you jump from one trail of thought to another rather haphazardly.
