When you become a mother, all the married females around you become a mother along you and start pouring in tips on raising a perfect baby without bothering whether these ideas are solicited or not. But sometimes, you do seek help to put some sanity back into your life especially if you believe these tricks might work. Anyway, ever since I have embraced motherhood for the second time, happened two months ago alhumdollilah, my favorite question, until recently, was to ask about tips on how to put a baby to sleep at night?
I had a very overwhelming beginning. My elder kid, who is extremely hyperactive, wakes up at 8 in the morning and then keeps my hands full all day. And this young little angel says hello to mommy at mid-night because that is when her day starts. This non-stop-wake-up routine has securely landed me at the doctor’s once for sheer back pain and high fever. And instead of giving me any medicine, my doctor has asked me to go home and sleep!
Yes, you heard me right, she said you are lethargic so go get some help on setting up a night routine and sleep!
It’s only then my quest started for knowing the magical ways on putting a baby to sleep. Upon inquiring, I got following tips. Some worked half the time, others never worked – so I have decided to put down all the best and flop ideas to put a baby to sleep for all the mothers around the world. Hence, consider this a public service message 🙂
- Tip Number 1: Don’t let your baby sleep in the day time. Keep her awake and then she would sleep at night. Well, I wish it was that easy. Kids these days are so stubborn. No matter what you do, they will find means to get things done their way since the day they are born. My baby keeps on sleeping even if I play drums right next to her ears. Hence, this tip is a big flop :/
- Tip Number 2: Don’t let her sleep post 7’o clock in the evening and then the baby will sleep with you. Hmmm, this one works quite haphazardly. There are days when I manage to keep her awake post 7’ish and then she sleeps at 10 at night peacefully. But then again, sometimes, even if she is awake post this mark, she will remain up for the rest of the night – lalala, we can all dance now 🙂
- Tip Number 3: Give her a full body massage at night and the baby will dose off! Well, well well – I have seen her become hyperactive after getting this massage. Some super natural power comes in and the baby wants to play all night. This doesn’t work my friends – not for me at least.
- Tip Number 4: Give her a bath at night and the baby will sleep right away – phew ! Well, this tip has worked 60-70% of the time on my baby. She sleeps for 3-4 nights in a week and then using the same strategy, she stays awake during the rest of the days. So I have a mixed feedback on this. This might work for you if your child is super-obedient by birth. Mine is still learning to be but do give it a try 😐
Anyway, I’ll keep this blog short and crisp so that you don’t get confused over these tips. A baby is the life’s best gift one can get. She smiles, and winks and clings on to you – makes you feel special. The sense of responsibility is so overwhelming – I’m enjoying this phase a lot. Especially this one when they are so small and cute!
But do remember that to raise a child, a mother needs a good night sleep and some balance in her life as well. A tiring and exhausted mom cannot raise a child to the best of his needs. Hence, it is important to keep looking for support groups to get going.
I salute the mothers of olden times who would have 5-6 kids, with hardly any age gap between them. And they would manage the household chores with minimal facilities and a big family all along. Women are surely one of the extremely powerful creatures of God – no doubt this is the only relationship (mother-child) with which He has identified resemblance for Himself and His creatures!
Cheers to all the Mommies !!
PS: These are my kid’s photos. Feel free to say Masha Allah 🙂
